Joel and Crystal Yoder – Kendall, Kurt, Jerrica
The Yoders joined the team in 2012 as Assistant Director and in 2018 moved into the Director role. Having seen first-hand the need for sending prepared workers, they are passionate about training workers for cross-cultural ministry. Joel guides the overall vision and organization of the MTC and helps with the teaching. Both Joel and Crystal assist with mentoring students who attend Long-Term Orientation. They love living in the city and want to help Anabaptist people catch a vision for cross-cultural ministry and church planting in cities across the world.
Jesse and Margaret Slabaugh – Rosa, Nathan, Joseph, Matthew
The Slabaughs joined the team in 2019. As Assistant Director, Jesse takes care of many day-to-day logistical matters, including processing applications, maintenance, finances, team communication, and lodging arrangements. Jesse and Margaret are excited about preparing and empowering individuals and families that God has called to specific places and people groups around the world. They also love the opportunity to invest in young people who are seeking God’s heart through mentoring, discipleship, and hospitality.
Nathan and Hannah Layman – Brienna, Adalyn, Bennet
The Laymans joined the team in August of 2022 as the Serve NYC Internship and WOW Directors. Nathan and Hannah get excited about encouraging and supporting young people as the pursue God and their communities. Stop in and they’ll serve you fresh pour over coffee or steaming teas and their children will quickly make friends and help you feel right at home. They love being a part of the local church, and their family’s favorite hobby is exploring parks in the city together.
Hannah Troyer
Hannah joined the Team in September of 2026. As Hospitality Director she takes care of cooking for each of the groups that come through for training, as well as housekeeping. She delights in connection with people, whether strangers or old friends and loves good words in any form and soulful music. She hopes everyone who comes through the center will be overwhelmed by Christ’s love and His heart for the nations and, in turn, go out and overwhelm their own worlds with that same love.
Maria Garber
Maria joined the team in November of 2024 as Hospitality Assistant. She is passionate about stories, espresso, pretty light, and color (especially yellow). Her favorite part of her job is working with an energetic kitchen team, and getting to meet so many people who are excited about serving Jesus and loving people all over the world.
Trennis Lehman
Trennis joined the team in June of 2025 as Administrative assistant. He loves life in the city and in his spare time enjoys playing guitar, making lattes and longboarding. At the MTC you’ll find him working on maintenance projects, editing spreadsheets, or connecting with students. He is passionate about community and hopes that through the work of the MTC more people will catch a vision of Gods heart for people all over the world.
